Portrait of Yeovil

Something very different for a group of our trainees today and next week. Somerset based Artist and Photographer Richard Tomlinson is creating A Portrait of Yeovil, exploring identity and belonging through photographic portraiture and recorded stories.

Richard is building a new body of work shaped through collaboration with local communities. Bringing together long-standing residents, shop owners, young people and new arrivals, the project explores how a place is formed through shared experiences, memories and connections. Using a travelling portrait studio, participants will create photographic self-portraits and share reflections on what home and belonging mean to them.

In particular, the project will focus on the people that often don’t get seen and the stories that don’t get heard. This project is about wonderful people, with meaningful stories, seen through a lens.

Richard is working with our trainees to create photographic portraits and record stories for the Portrait of Yeovil project.

A collection of portraits made on the project will be exhibited at Westlands Entertainment Venue in Yeovil for the Somerset Art Weeks Festival, 19th September - 4th October. Can't wait to see the exhibition!!!
